#2 Net Worth Update – Stashing cash

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the monthly Net Worth Update! I am still trying to stash money and so far, I am quite happy with my saving rate. I am currently still building up my emergency fund, which ultimately should amount about CHF 18’000-20’000. This amount represents 6 months of expenses and should cover every WTF event that could happen to me in the future. Now, let’s check my accounts!

Bank account: CHF 5’296.24

Saving account: CHF 1600.-

Brokerage account:

Stocks: CHF 23’067.53

Cash: CHF 2’765.59

Consolidated Net Worth in CHF: 32’729.36 (up 18% from October)

As you may see I substantially increased my cash position which now amounts almost 30% of my total net worth. Since, I am building my emergency fund it appears reasonable. Jpwever, I have a long-term goal of 20% or less in cash but for the moment the priority is to build this emergency fund. Don’t worry, I will dedicate a whole article to the reasons of building up such a fund.

Expenses
From a spending point of view, this month has not been so great… My total expenses amount CHF 3’403.25, while I achieved to spend only CHF 2’272.35 in September. Is Mr.RTF abandoning himself to the joy of lifestyle inflation???

No, but I am moving in a new apartment and had to buy furnitures. The total expenses related to moving in are 1’182.25 for October, the rest will be incurred in November. I really hate to move out and move in to another place, I hate going to IKEA, to have to deal with the stress of organizing everything and so on. I even chose the option with delivery and building of the furnitures, which cost me a few extra hundreds but allow me to be way more relaxed. I admit this is not what a frugal person would recommend… but who likes to build furnitures!?Sometimes, you have to allow yourself small extras 😉

Nonetheless, I wasn’t on a spending streak and still maintained a decent saving rate of 47,20% (before taxes). I hope to cross the 50% rate again in November!

Cheers!
