The Monthly Experiment – No caffeine November
I like to make some experiments in my daily life, try out new things, new methods or simply learn something new. In November I decided to cut coffee and its caffeine out of my life . Find out why!

Dear Reader,

Dear Reader,
Today’s topic is maybe one of the most important one of the personal finance: the emergency fund.
An emergency fund is essentially money that has been set aside to cover any of life’s unexpected events or so called WTF-events. If you are new to the personal finance world, building up an emergency account should be your priority!
Dear Reader,
Welcome to the monthly Net Worth Update! I am still trying to stash money and so far, I am quite happy with my saving rate. I am currently still building up my emergency fund, which ultimately should amount about CHF 18’000-20’000. This amount represents 6 months of expenses and should cover every WTF event that could happen to me in the future. Now, let’s check my accounts!
Dear Reader,
I recently wrote a blogpost on how to choose the right health insurance. I hope you read it, if you haven’t you can find it here. For more details about this serie, check the introduction post.
For those of you who have found a new health insurance, first CONGRATULATIONS, I am really proud of you! I hope you will save some money and have a great return on your invested time!
Since you did the hard part of the process, I want to help you with the administrative hassle and get rid of your old insurance policy.
Good news: I prepared a cancellation letter ready to use! (EN/DE/FR)
Now, even if you are lazy as me (which is probably not the case), you have no more excuses. Just modify the highlighted parts in the letter and send it as registered mail. Please, make sure you send it as registered mail, otherwise your old insurance provider may argue that they never received it… and yes they sometimes do that…
If you wish to cancel your current insurance with effect from 31 December, you must do this by no later than 30 November.
Sorry for my Italian speaking fellows, I couldn’t come up with an Italian version…
EN: Health insurance cancellation letter

Dear Reader,
Today is the day of my first « Net Worth Update ». Basically, I want to share my current financial situation with you and see how much I saved during my time studying at the university. I still need to figure out the exact format of the net worth update, so don’t hesitate to give me a feedback on what to improve.
As you may know, I am starting a new job. This new job in a new city also means high monthly expenses. This will impact this month saving rate and probably the next ones as well, but I will try to keep it to a reasonable level. Now let’s check how much I saved while pretending to study!
Dear Reader,
